We grow high quality fresh, organic produce for sale at the Harrisonburg framers market and available at several local restaurants. Our farm employs those who are in the midst of difficult life situations, primarily those currently experiencing homelessness or unemployment. We also provide meaningful work opportunites for those completing community service hours, wanting to complete unique farming related school projects, or working with volunteers who are interested in urban growing.
Providing a supportive community, good job references, and a connection to the earth helps create stability, personal growth and a foundation for recovery for our workers. Proceeds from selling our vegetables go directly towards paying our workers.
We are a near zero-emissions farm: we use bicycle trailers for garden-related transportation and hand-tools for garden work. We look to nature as our example, and use companion planting, diversity and beneficial insect attractors instead of chemicals. Our model is one that can easily be converted to any homesite and we are constantly learning and testing innovative growing techniques to share.
