Planning a New School Garden!

The school garden education program is one of NCPs latest initiatives in the Harrisonburg community.  We believe that garden education — as a basis for healthy eating and sustainable life-habits — has a vital place in schools. This year we are working with students, parents, teachers and administrators to create a school garden at Waterman Elementary School. Contact us to get involved!

Maria Bowman (former school garden coordinator with NCP) shares about her work with Grow Pittsburgh.

Maria helped NCP set up school gardens at Linville-Edom Elementary School and Eastern Mennonite Elementary School. In September of 2011, she moved to the East End of Pittsburgh to begin work with Grow Pittsburgh, an urban agriculture nonprofit focused on education.  Through their Edible Schoolyard program, Maria teaches garden and cooking classes to inquisitive, growing minds at two public elementary schools with school gardens on-site.
